Bio
Joe Garvin is the JV offensive line coach at Sutter High School, where he has been coaching for the past four years. With over 12 years of experience coaching both football and rugby, Joe brings his knowledge and love of the game to the field. Growing up in England, he didn’t have the opportunity to play football until moving to the United States his freshman year of high school. He went on to play four years on the offensive line at Wheatland High School. His coaching background includes serving as head coach and vice president of the Sutter Jr. Huskies, and he currently serves as president of the Barbarians Rugby Club.
Joe and his wife, Amanda, have four children—two daughters and two sons—two of whom have graduated from Sutter High. All of their children have been involved in football and/or rugby among other sports proving the family’s love of sports. Outside of coaching, Joe enjoys golfing, reading, and spending time with his family. A devoted Ohio State football fan, he dreams of one day watching a home game at “The Shoe.”
Joe’s coaching philosophy is rooted in effort, commitment, and doing your best for the team. One of his favorite quotes comes from former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel: “Success is the inner satisfaction and peace of mind that come from knowing I did the best I was capable of doing for the group.” That message guides his approach on and off the field.
